Supporting students with special
rights and their families

We have a junior primary special class located in the centre of our school. We have eight children enrolled from reception to year 2. There is a classroom teacher along with an SSO who provide a supportive and safe learning environment. Each child has a One Plan and the learning program is highly individualised for each student. Staff plan using the Australian Curriculum and modify and adapt it to meet the needs of the class.

Children engage in play based learning, as oral language, communication and social skills are an important part of the learning program. Our special class participate in all school events and children play alongside the rest of the school at play times. All children who are enrolled in our special class have gone through the special options placement process through the Department for Education. Each child is assessed by a psychologist individually and a recommendation is made in consultation with the family and school.
